I was browsing through my Inspiration boards and discovered that the common thread running through most of these pictures was their minimalist aesthetic. I have always loved the minimalist movement – the absence of clutter and the underlying impracticality that it breeds. This “impracticality” is the art of removing most objects out of sight, leaving only a lamp and a book present in a bedroom. The result: Clean, simple and hauntingly beautiful photographs. Architect,Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, adopted the term “Less is more” and always emphasized the importance of light. In architecture, natural light is a desirable quality, and in fashion perhaps it plays a dominant role in highlighting the beauty of the clothes. May we all take a minimalist approach to our lives in 2014 so that we are able to simplify matters and not only appreciate the presence of light, but also the beauty in the absence of it. Happy New Year!
